Michael studied voice in Bournemouth with Patricia Taylor before embarking on a music degree at Bath Spa University in 2011 from where he graduated in 2014.

Michael’s love of music began at the age of 8 when he became a member of the Highcliffe Junior Choir (now the Highcliffe Youth Choir) and the Broadstone Youth Choir where he was introduced to the full spectrum of choral repertoire. Through his studies at university and the several master-classes he attended with Rosalind Plowright, Michael has subsequently developed a love for opera as well as Oratorio, early music, folksongs and German Lieder.

While in Bath, he was a pupil of Judy Davis and, during his time at Bath, he took the lead roles –Tamino in Die Zauberflöte and Acis in Acis and Galatea – in the University’s production of those operas. In June/July of 2012, he took the role of Remandado in a local touring production of Carmen produced by Bath Opera.

In February 2013 he was a member of the Chorus in Bath Opera’s production of Nabucco and in the same year sang the role of Don Curzio in Bath Spa’s University production of Le Nozze di Figaro. In February 2014 as a member of Bath Opera he performed “Mr Buchanan” in Street Scene by Kurt Weill, and this was followed by Bath Opera’s touring production of Die Zauberflöte in July 2014, in which he sang the role of Monastatos.
From the age of 17, Michael has performed in a wide range of productions either as a chorus member or in a lead role.
Since 2007 he has taken part in the chorus of six fully professional opera productions staged by Dorset Opera – Cavalleria Rusticana, Pagliacci, Carmen, Tosca, Otello, Il Trovatore, La Traviata and Der Fliegende Holländer.
Since returning to Bournemouth, Michael has also enjoyed performing with the Orlando Singers under the directorship of David Fawcett, St Peter’s Consort, the Wessex Vocal Consort and as part of the Vox Serenata Quartet based in Dorset.

In 2015 he performed two song recitals in local churches in Dorset accompanied by Christopher Dowie in May and June, and in early August sang with Collegium Vocale at Westminster Abbey. In December 2015 he performed as the tenor soloist in Haydn’s Nelson Mass, and in March 2016 he performed in Michael Haydn’s Requiem and Howard Goodall’s Eternal Light with Christopher Dowie and the Wimborne Choral Society at Wimborne Minster.

In May 2017 Michael sang as the tenor soloist in Bach’s Magnificat with Ian Davis and the Bournemouth University choir. In the same year, he worked with a local composer Roger Hewetson on his recording of “The Birth of Christ”. This was followed by a performance of Handel’s “Messiah” as the tenor soloist with Ian Davis and the Bournemouth University choir.

In March 2018 Michael sang as one of the tenor soloists in 2 performances of J.S. Bach’s St Matthew Passion – the first at Christchurch Priory with Tim Hooper and the Bournemouth Bach Choir and the second with conductor Ian Davis and Bournemouth University and Orchestra. This was followed by a performance of Mozart’s Requiem and Vespers at Wimborne Minster with conductor Chris Dowie and the Wimborne Choral Society. Later that year, saw the performance of Vaughan Williams Wenlock Edge with Michael as the tenor soloist along with Ian Davis and the Bournemouth University string quartet.
